Citizens
Television offers video training classes in both field
production (remote videotaping)
and studio production throughout the
year. These classes are available FREE to residents and
students living in the New Haven, West Haven and Hamden CT
area. Persons, who work
or volunteer at non-profit organizations (including religious
institutions) in the three towns, may,
regardless of where they live, also take classes and produce
programs exclusively for that
organization.
The classes, the use of the
field equipment, the studio, and the editing facilities are all
offered free of charge. Our equipment
is designed to be clear and easy to operate. The CTV
staff will continue to be available with ongoing technical help
and further
training from the beginning of your project to the completed
program. When your show is completed, CTV will provide free air
time for telecasting your show (no
commercial content or promotion,
please!).

Class Schedules:
We now provide classes on an
intensified basis in order to speed up the certification
process. Both of the field classes (Field Cameras and
Editing) are taught in a single day over a seven (7)
hour period. Studio production is taught either in a
four consecutive days format (2pm-6pm), evenings
(6pm-10pm) in four hour classes, or in 4 consecutive
weeks, one day or evening in each week. If you
fail to show up for an initial class or to call with an
acceptable excuse, you will not be permitted to sign up
again for one year.
How to
get Your
Own Show!
Our Program Manager is available to discuss your ideas,
your work in progress, and to schedule air dates for a
show. To initiate a production, you will fill out a
Program Proposal and talk to the Program Manager, Tim
Dagradi, about your plans and the technical
requirements. Each time you book equipment, studio, or
editing time, you should give the staff the name of your
production as it is listed on the Program Proposal.

During the weeks you are in
production, you should keep in touch with the
Program Manager about the progress of your work so that
we can help with any problems that
arise and so that your show can be completed in a
reasonable time. (See the Program Proposal form for
details.) We will provide you
with ideas for promoting your show, and help you to
network with other producers or technical crew who can
offer helpful suggestions.
Each completed program (DVD) must be accompanied by a
Cablecast Form
which lists the rules for programming, content, and
CTV's use of the DVD. It is basically an agreement
between you and CTV about the use of your work.
We cablecast on three channels
seven days a week. We are programmed
for 24 hours a day, including our
Community Bulletin Board and
satellite programs.
There are a limited number of
time slots available to producers on a first come, first
served basis. We
can currently guarantee every
producer one hour of air-time each
week and we seek a wide
diversity of programming representing all the segments
of our communities.
